Використання матеріалів відеолекцій TED talks для формування іншомовної компетентності майбутніх економістів

Abstract

У статті розглянуто можливості та інструментарії використання відеоматеріалів лекцій TED Talks у процесі навчання здобувачів вищої освіти економічних спеціальностей англійської мови. Підкреслено їхню корисність для здобувачів вищої освіти у процесі покращення навичок читання, говоріння, аудіювання, уміння публічно виступати та робити презентації, підвищення внутрішньої мотивації до вивчення іноземної мови професійного спрямування, а також для викладачів у процесі формування навчально-методичних матеріалів. Основу статті склали теоретичні та практичні напрацювання українських та іноземних науковців, а також особистий викладацький досвід авторів. Авторами розроблено заняття на основі використання однієї з лекцій TED Talks, а саме: «What is economic value, and who creates it?». Запропоновано систему завдань для виконання здобувачами вищої освіти на кожному етапі заняття з іноземної мови професійного спрямування: переддемонстраційному, демонстраційному і післядемонстраційному, серед яких: питання для обговорення за темою заняття, що мають на меті зацікавити здобувачів вищої освіти темою заняття, привернути їхню увагу до нових лексичних одиниць, активізувати мовленнєву діяльність; активний словник  вивчення ключових слів та понять, що використовуються у наданому до перегляду відеоматеріалі; вправи, спрямовані на перевірку розуміння здобувачами вищої освіти змісту переглянутого відео. Представлено список доступних відеоматеріалів TED Talks, які можуть бути успішно використані у процесі навчання здобувачів вищої освіти економічних спеціальностей англійської мови. In this article, we consider one of these modern technologies, which we successfully use in «Foreign language for professional purposes» classes  watching videos on the TED Ed resource. The possibilities and tools of using video materials of TED Talks lectures in the process of teaching the English language to students of economic specialties are considered in the following article. Theoretical and practical researches of Ukrainian and foreign scientists, as well as the personal teaching experience of the authors form the basis for the article. The advantages of using the materials of TED Talks lectures in the process of teaching «Foreign language for professional purposes» at higher education establishments are considered. Their usefulness for undergraduates of economic specialties in the process of improving reading, speaking, listening skills, public presentations, increasing internal motivation to learn «Foreign language for professional purposes», as well as for teachers in the process of preparing teaching materials are overviewed. The authors develop a lesson based on the use of one of the TED Talks lectures, namely: «What is economic value, and who creates it?». A system of exercises for each stage of a foreign language lesson is proposed, including: questions for discussion on the topic of the lesson, which are aimed at increasing students’ interest in the topic of the lesson, drawing their attention to new lexicon, intensifying their speech activity; active vocabulary  study of keywords and concepts used in the video provided for viewing; tasks such as: filling in gaps in texts and sentences; replacement of words and phrases with appropriate synonymous terms; description of the meaning of a new word with the help of already known words, etc. Summing up the above material, we can draw the following conclusion: TED Talks videos have significant potential for tackling educational problems; while possessing great informativeness of the material, they create an atmosphere of real language communication.
